Still Chosen: God Uses the Broken to Build the Beautiful

When we think of “Bible heroes,” we often picture stained-glass saints—holy, flawless, unwavering.

But that’s not the story Scripture tells.

The real story is one of liars, cowards, adulterers, murderers, manipulators, and doubters.
And a God who chose them anyway.

What if your failures don’t disqualify you from God’s purpose—but instead prepare you for it?

✦ Look at Who God Still Called

  • Abraham lied—twice—out of fear, calling his wife his sister to protect himself (Genesis 12, 20).
Yet God still made him the father of nations.

  • Moses murdered a man and ran for 40 years (Exodus 2).
Yet God called him to lead Israel out of slavery.

  • David committed adultery and arranged a murder (2 Samuel 11).
Yet God called him “a man after My own heart.” (Acts 13:22)

  • Jacob deceived his father and stole his brother’s blessing (Genesis 27).
Yet he wrestled with God and was renamed Israel, the father of the twelve tribes.

  • Paul (formerly Saul) persecuted and killed Christians (Acts 8).
Yet Jesus called him to carry the Gospel to the Gentiles and write much of the New Testament.

Even those who didn’t fall into great sin still faced great suffering:

  • Ruth lost everything but clung to faith and family (Ruth 1).
God brought her into the lineage of Christ.

  • Mary was pure and faithful, yet bore the cost of obedience.
She became the mother of the Messiah.

  • Joseph was righteous, yet betrayed, falsely accused, and imprisoned (Genesis 37–50).
God used him to save lives during famine and reunite a broken family.

Why This Matters for You

If God can use murderers and manipulators, then your worst mistake doesn’t stop His best plan.

  • You are not too far gone.

  • You are not disqualified.

  • You are not a failure in the hands of God.

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise;
God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

—1 Corinthians 1:27

Your scars don’t cancel your calling. They just tell the story of a God who still heals, restores, and uses broken vessels to pour out grace.

📖 Devotional Reflection: Grace Greater Than Failure

Micah 7:8
“Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”

Romans 8:1
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Psalm 103:12
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Let these verses speak to every part of you that still doubts God can use you.
